Keith Arrowsmith
Keith specialises in
intellectual property law. He was previously head of Intellectual
Property Law at HLW in Sheffield. He joined SGH’s IT/IP department
in 2009 as a partner.
His clients include those
in the arts, entertainment and creative sectors, notably venue owners,
writers, publishers and artists. He also works closely with other
service industry and hi-tech clients, both in the commercial and not for
profit sectors.
Keith deals with the
creation, evaluation, protection and exploitation of intellectual
property rights. He deals with the registration of trademarks and design
rights, and advises on licensing and the transfer of ownership of those
rights. He takes a special interest in constitutional and governance
issues for his clients, and his pro-active attitude is reflected in his
deals.
He is an Associate
Lecturer for Sheffield Hallam University and has written a guide to
Theatre law and regulations for Methuen. He is a member of the Society
for Computers and Law, the National Operatic and Dramatic Association
and an Associate Member of the Association of British Theatre
Technicians. He was “Mentor of the Year” for Connect Yorkshire in 2009.

Fisher v Brooker and another
[2009] All ER (D) 338 (Jul),
[2009] UKHL 41. The House of Lords ruled that Matthew Fisher, a
former organist in the band Procul Harum, was not barred from
collecting future royalties for the song “A whiter Shade of Pale”,
even though he waited 38 years to stake his claim.
