Health and Safety - Impact of new Health and Safety requirements on Licensees

There is a bewildering array of Health and Safety Regulations and Statutes affecting public houses which are constantly changing. The most significant developments in health and safety relating to licensed premises at the moment however arise from the new Licensing Act, and Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 which requires compliance by 21st May this year.

The Licensing Act 2003 Licensing Objectives and Policy Statements-

The Licensing Act 2003 received Royal Assent in July last year and will be implemented in phases. One of the main purposes of this Act was to promote public safety.-

The Licensing Act changes are covered in greater detail elsewhere, but it is perhaps worth noting in passing the key changes which will affect public safety.
