Intellectual Property Law
This department headed by Simon Halberstam is mainly focussed on the IT world but also represents clients in various other industries in relation to a wide range of Intellectual Property Matters including trade marks and patents.
The Weblaw Group forms the main part of this department and understands, recognises and use the methodology of the IT world. This not only means that we offer free services and apply a fixed-price policy; but also ensures that our expert advice always reflects our clients' exact concerns and that their objectives are implemented.
Free services to companies and IT users
Certain services - such as introductory one-hour meeting; IT legal hotline (up to 30 minutes per month); and outline reviews of IT contracts - are offered without charge.

IT contracts
Through our work for the IT industry we have created a wide range of fixed-price, reusable template contracts for most requirements. They deal with the problems commonly facing IT companies , ensuring compliance with EU and UK legislation, and addressing commercial concerns such as protection of profit where customers alter requirements mid-project. The range includes software development, licence, maintenance, distribution, VAR and agency, as well as agreements for employees and independent contractors.

Internet law and commerce
We advise companies on how to exploit the emerging global marketplace of the World Wide Web. While advising on the legal risks of online business, we adopt a commercial approach based on a thorough understanding of the underlying technology. We also offer a range of fixed-price pro forma contracts, covering e-commerce, website design and maintenance and ISP services.

Domain Names
Domain names are significant corporate assets. Trademark registration can prevent loss of a domain name to a rival. We offer the full range of services for domain names (advice on protection, clearance searches and acting in disputes). Simon Halberstam is the author of a book on the law relating to domain names (Tolley's Domain Names: A Practical Guide)
In house legal training
Analysis of issues raised by our clients reveals that most legal problems arise in one of two areas. We therefore offer seminars at client premises or at our offices on the following: Negotiating IT contracts and the legal implications of email and the Internet.
The IT Law Group has its own website, which contains further detailed information about the services available, and also news and articles and details of seminars coming up: www.weblaw.co.uk
