The Employment Law group advises on all aspects of the employee and employer relationship. It has never been more important to understand the legal landscape in the employment field or to ensure that workplace policies and contracts conform to the latest legislative developments. Our team specialises in both contentious and non-contentious employment issues and has wide ranging experience in the following areas.
Non-Contentious
Documentation
The firm can assist with and advise on the drafting of all HR-related documentation in order to avoid the many potentially expensive pitfalls that can occur. Examples include: contracts of employment - ensuring their compliance with the ever-changing legislation and also advising on the enforceability of post-termination restrictive covenants; equal opportunities policies and procedures; disciplinary and grievance procedures; e-mail and internet user policies; and anti-bullying polices.
TUPE
In conjunction with other specialist lawyers within the practice, we ensure that the employment advice we give takes account of the business as a whole in the context of takeovers, mergers, reorganisations, transfers and insolvency proceedings.
Working Time Regulations
Employees are becoming more and more aware of their rights and employers are becoming increasingly confused. We can advise on issues such as breaks, holiday pay and holiday entitlement
"Family Friendly" Legislation
There is a raft of new legislation giving employees rights to time off work, whether paid or unpaid. We can give guidance on implementing workplace policies which comply with the new laws
Contentious
We have extensive experience of representing both Applicants and Respondents in employment tribunals, the EAT and the High Court. We are pro-active in advising on strategy where litigation is pursued. Examples of the types of cases we deal with include:
Unfair and Wrongful Dismissal
We have extensive experience of representing clients both in supporting and contesting dismissal claims, whether they be unfair or in breach of contract.
Sex, Race and Disability Discrimination
Our experience is wide-ranging, covering sex, race and disability discrimination claims and we can advise on proposed new legislation dealing with discrimination on other grounds such as sexual orientation, age and religion.
Post-termination Restrictive Covenants
Cases involving post-termination restrictions are becoming more and more common. Our team is able to advise both at the stage of drafting and at the stage when proceedings (including injunction proceedings) are being brought as to the effect and enforceability of such clauses in employees’ contracts of employment.
Briefing service
We operate a briefing service to keep you up to date with the latest developments in European and domestic legislation and case law, and help you understand and implement changes where necessary. In addition to topical seminars given at the office, we are always pleased to provide workplace briefings as required.
Helpline
We are always happy to provide urgent advice over the telephone as required. We offer thirty minutes’ free legal advice for new clients.
Workshops
Experience shows that the key to managing employees successfully is to pass on our knowledge by way of workshops and in-house training. By knowing how to deal with situations at the outset often prevents problems and the need to take advice later on. Our practical and informative sessions can be specifically tailored to meet your needs and the open forum is used to address any employment issues you may have.
We now offer a workshop on Alcohol and Drug Abuse |
